Editing Your Video

So you’ve recorded together the bits of your video but you really want to cut out that bit in the middle when you had a sneezing fit. Where can you go? There are a varieties of software out there that you can use to edit your video. Your camera likely came with some, but if you don’t like it—or lost it and never installed it—you may want to check out http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/ for a freeware video editor that reads many types of recorded video.

There are many other video editors out there, such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier, but these frequently cost thousands of dollars to get a license. While they have more features and greater usability than Avidemux does, the cost is usually so high that you may not want to get them. A compromise between Final Cut or Premier and Avidemux is Ulead’s MediaStudioPro, which is offered to members of Jobs.ByIndia at %age off, saving you $dollars. It is not quite as powerful as the thousand-dollar professional packages, but it has all of the features that you will need for your video on Jobs.ByIndia and is easy to use.

Once you have decided what program to use to edit your video, we have a few tips for you to make a better video. Pay attention to the message that you’re sending. Edit out any long pauses in your video unless you really intend for them to be there, Keep the video tight and short. Two minutes, tops.

Uploading a video

In order to upload a video, you will need to either post a resume or post a job. Once you have finished filling out the information required to post a resume or a job, you will be taken to a screen that prompts you to upload a video. Click on the "Browse" button and the navigate to the file that you want to upload as a video. After selecting to upload the video, it will take a while for it to transfer. Don’t navigate away from the upload page until the process is done, or else your video may not upload correctly.

Questions About Equal Employment Opportunity?

Pursuant to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Pay act of 1963, the ADEA, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Titles I and III of the ADA, and the Civil Rights Act of 1991, it is against the law to use race, religion, gender, age, sexual preference, color, disability, or national origin as a basis for discrimination in employment. This means that when an employer is evaluating potential employees on Jobs.ByIndia, the evaluation can only be based on characteristics that are relevant to the job. These characteristics may be things such as relevant education, previous job experience, job history, or any other item that may factor into whether a potential employee can perform the duties required by the job position. Certain other elements that may be obvious due to the video nature of job applications on Jobs.ByIndia, such as gender, race, age, disability or national origin, should not be used to determine if an applicant will be hired.

Jobs.ByIndia takes Equal Opportunity seriously and requires that all job posters accept the terms of the above acts as part of the terms of service to post jobs on our website. If you feel that you have been discriminated against during the hiring process due to a protected status such as race, gender, disability, or religion, please contact us at Address@byindia.com and we will investigate promptly.

Employers need to follow the principles set down in the above laws. If you are not hiring an applicant who is clearly qualified for the job posting, make sure that the criterion that you are using to determine who you hire is not based on a protected status. If you are found to be in violation of any of the above laws, your account with Jobs.ByIndia can be suspended. E-mail us at Address@byindia.com if you have any questions.

Questions About Your Privacy?

Jobs.ByIndia is very serious about keeping your personal information safe. Privacy and personal information are issues that should be a concern for any users of social media such as Jobs.ByIndia. We have some tips to help you keep sensitive information private, but it boils down to this: do not put sensitive information up where it is readily available on the internet. Do not give your sensitive information out to strangers. Of course, some information is essential for employers, so you do need to put some of your information out there for others to see.

Jobs.ByIndia only allows users who have registered with us to view your contact information, which limits who will be able to look at any personal data. That said, make sure that you do not post your credit card information, birth date, driver’s license information, passwords, or any personal financial information on Jobs.ByIndia, or in a resume or video interview. Employers do not generally have a right or a need to ask for any of the above data except to ask if you are over 18 or over 21. If an employer, or anyone posing as an employer, asks you for your social security information or for personal financial information for any reason, do not provide them with the information that they ask for and report them to us at Address@byindia.com.

Employees looking for work are not being unreasonable if they ask for stock ticker names or your company’s legal name to check up on a company on the internet or with the Better Business Bureau. That said, there is no reason for an employer to give anyone access to private financial data or other employees’ personal information. If you have been asked for personal financial information by a prospective employee or anyone posing as a prospective employee, please report the issue to us here and do not give the job seeker the data that he or she requests.

Answers for Job Seekers

Searching for a Job

To start searching for a job, type in a descriptive term for the type of job that you want, such as "Ruby Developer". Then select a job category, type in the zip code of the area that you are looking to get a job—or leave the zip code area blank if you are willing to re-locate—and press "Find Jobs!" If you would like to sort by keyword relevance, if you would rather search by city and state instead of zip code, or if you only want to find jobs with a video attachment, select "Advanced Search" and continue on from there. Your search results will be returned as a list of job titles. Click on any that sound interesting to see more about them.

Applying for a job

Applying for a job on Jobs.ByIndia is easy. After you’ve searched and found a job that interests you, click on the "Apply for This Job" button. Then, stuff will happen. I don’t know what yet because we haven’t got it all working.

Writing a Good Resume

A good resume is something of an art form. It is hard to condense your personality, skills, and work history into one page of paper. While Jobs.ByIndia makes it easier for you to really show an employer your stuff with video, a well-written print resume is still important. Follow the below tips to help make sure that you’re writing a distinctive resume.

  • Keep it short. Unless you have been a senior vice president and CEO of a host of companies, there is no need for your resume to go over a page.
  • Employers looking for employees in technical or skill-based fields will use certain search terms. Programmers know languages like C# or ASP. Mechanics have certifications, and professionals have business licenses. Make sure that if you have any certifications or knowledge that is likely to be a search term for an interested employer.
  • Check all of your work for typos. Better yet, have someone else who you trust to do a thorough job of it to check through your resume for typos for you. Even before an employer watches your video, he or she will look over your resume. If there are any mistakes there, the employer will likely simply go on to the next resume.
  • Make sure that your resume is easy to read and laid out intelligently. Do not write your resume in a cursive font and do not make it six-point font so you can fit all of the text on to one page. Do you know what happens when an employer comes across a resume that is not easy to read? He or she goes on to the next one.
  • Organize the resume coherently. Put your summary, your objective—what you want out of an ideal job—followed by your skills, then your work history, with any applicable education at the end. Or put things in a different order. Just make sure that you have a logic behind your resume and that a potential employer will be able to figure it out.

A full and exhaustive resume primer is beyond the scope of this FAQ. If you are writing a resume for the first time or think that you need to re-write your resume for maximum punch, try visiting a site like http://www.rockportinstitute.com/resumes.html. Please note that Jobs.ByIndia is not affiliated with the Rockport Institute and is not endorsing any of their products in any fashion. Also, search on Google.com or Yahoo.com for "Resume Writing Tips" and you should be able to find a good resource easily.
